Day 134 of 365
The moon was neither blue, nor bloody and only a tiny bit super. This morning I woke up early to go outside and catch a glimpse of that once in a lifetime moon. I read on NPR that it was a perfect trifecta of a lunar experience. Why? I got to see a blue moon, a lunar eclipse and super moon all at the same time. This hasn't happened since 1866. We get to see a blue moon when two full moons appear in the same month. A lunar eclipse happens when the moon moves in to the shadow o

Day 133 of 365
Fire Today I wanted to do something that is completely reckless and a little stupid. I made and shot a flaming arrow instead. I've watched many movies and TV shows with a firey arrow used for dramatic affect. That was not my goal today. On Day 133 I just wanted to build and launch an arrow that would hold flame, fly and hit a target... ON FIRE. I used a coconut oil soaked cotton cloth. I decided on this fuel because it turns to a solid when it gets cold. This way it wouldn't

Day 132 of 365
The pen-cil is mighty Today's experience started early. I woke up with the pencil making idea in my head. That's how it works sometimes. I knew this would be something to do because I've always wanted to buy one of those tree branch pencils from the cracker barrel gift shop. If you've been there you know what I'm talking about. On day 132 I hand crafted a stick pencil. The materials are so quick. I went out in the back yard and snipped a few branches from my favorite trees. O

Day 131 of 365
Ice Ice Baby! Today’s adventure was exciting. I had my first ice fishing experience on Lake Geneva. The morning started pretty early and involved a minimum amount of coffee. There’s no ladies room on the lake. When I arrived at the home of my fishing host family they brought me out on the lake. The sidesaddle quad ride was pretty chilly as we towed the portable ice shack out. As fishing goes the guys had the super special spot where the little swimmers were biting the day bef

Day 130 of 365
Mmm Mmm not so good Let's talk about the Miracle fruit AKA Magic Berry. This little red gem is in fact a bit magical. Here’s how my adventure went. The little red tablet is meant to change the way that foods taste. I saw a video of people using this magic fruit and having an interesting reaction to some extreme food flavors. Let's start with what was on the menu. Each of these items have distinct flavors. I invited my people to join this experience and we started with the app

Day 129 of 365
Great Balls of Fire!! A few years ago a family friend showed this to me and my son reminded me about it. I'd watched the youtube hijinks and thought it might be a tiny bit nuts which made it perfect for day 129. Flaming balls that you hold in your hand might sound a little kooky but after 128 days I'm ready to go way out of my comfort zone. The preparation was pretty simple. Cut some cotton fabric. Shape and tie it into a ball. I made two because I wanted to hold one in each

Day 128 of 365
Bump and a lot of grind A few days ago I learned how to cut glass. I should share that I made it through that experience without hurting myself. I think that in itself is quite an accomplishment. Cutting glass was the first step in my stained glass project. On day 128 I moved on to the very treacherous glass grinding. My instructions were quick and a bit unsettling: 1. make sure the grinding wheel is wet. 2. move your glass along that grinder in the opposite direction of rota

Day 127 of 365
Get Out! I've heard so many people talk about escape rooms and using logic to get yourself out of a locked environment. Tonight I took my three loving family members with me to escape the room. Since it’s an experience meant to challenge your wits I was certain that each of my people would bring a different skill to this challenge. I was so very right! The four of us worked that puzzle and relied on each other to find the right clue and combination in the right order. It was

Day 126 of 365
Whip it! Remember a few days ago when I called out the weather in Wisconsin? Well the universe was listening and now I'm trapped by 7 inches of snow. Yesterday I made some amazing noodles and the recipe called for only egg yolks. When I separated the eggs I kept the whites with the idea I would use them for something. I figured I had a few days to make that mess so I put them in the fridge. It turns out that being trapped in my house by 7 inches of snow gave me the perfect op

Day 125 of 365
Noodles It's a cool rainy January afternoon. I live in the midwest where we should have a few feet of snow but instead we have about that same measurement of rain. What the heck? So instead of the the adventure I had planned I decided on day 125 I should hand make some egg noodles. What I should have done was make soup and add the noodles but that would have required a bit more planning. I really love noodles and I especially love egg noodles but I've never mixed, rolled and
