Day 131 of 365

Ice Ice Baby!

Today’s adventure was exciting.

I had my first ice fishing experience on Lake Geneva. The morning started pretty early and involved a minimum amount of coffee. There’s no ladies room on the lake.

When I arrived at the home of my fishing host family they brought me out on the lake. The sidesaddle quad ride was pretty chilly as we towed the portable ice shack out.

As fishing goes the guys had the super special spot where the little swimmers were biting the day before. Setup was super fast and efficient. I think Eric and Jack might have done this a few times. We used a few augers to make two different sized holes. Fishing gadgets are set up in one 5” hole and we jig our tiny poles in the second 8” opening. The ice was about 8 inches thick and I felt pretty safe until some crazy fool drove his pickup truck out to his shack. You could hear the thunder of the ice crack. NOT COOL!

Once we sat down it didn’t take long for the fish to swim in. The guys have a video camera dropped down to the bottom of the lake and I watched the fish swim in and snatch the bait. It was an occasional distraction from actually catching a fish but it made the first time experience something special.

We spent about 6 hours on this fishing trip and I could have stayed out there 6 more. As hosts go these guys are amazing and I should thank Di for setting it all up. I really needed an experience that disconnected me for a few hours.

I'm sure you're wondering how it went.

We caught a few.

Day 131 was a perfect catch.
