Day 42 of 365
Day 42 was a special experience. I had the privilege of attending Gateway Tech 25 years ago. I graduated from their Police Science program and picked up a few essential tools for life in the process. It wasn't all related to law enforcement, it was also lessons in perseverance and the dedication involved in reaching those goals. I did receive a scholarship. It was a small one but at the time it allowed me to pay for books and materials necessary to complete my classwork. Why

Day 41 of 365
It's been days but we have kombucha! Back on the 6th day of this adventure I started growing a SCOBY so that I could brew my own kombucha. I waited a few weeks for the SCOBY to grow. It was pretty thick and ready to move on to fermenting the actual drink. I transferred the initial liquid in to jars and added some fruit juice. I actually used fresh purple grapes and disintegrated them in the NINJA blender. I strained out all of the clumps and set it in a dark place to grow som

Day 40 of 365
The numbers game Today was an adventure in numbers. Have you ever looked at the clock and 11:11 comes up? It seems to happen all of the time and I've wanted to understand if there's a higher meaning to it. My plan of attack was to sit down and read the mysterious ancient secret of numerology. Don't laugh, it's a thing and science and math are involved. The part that surprises me most is the religious connection to numerology. The Hebriac Kabbalah teaches a very simple system

Day 39 of 365
Busting it up- Stones are the bones of the Earth. My 39th day is an adventure through the Ohio renaissance festival. I was pretty sure I was going to experience something new but I had no idea there was going to be snow on the way to the Faire. When we went to bed last night the weather said cold and rainy. In Wisconsin there is very little chance of snow before Labor Day weekend so I've never worried about that when I'm lacing up that corset. Ha, as if! When we woke up this

Day 38 of 365
Flight and arrows My 37th adventure was all about building a bow. I had the best time but that seems like only half of a project. On the 38th day I made three arrows to accompany that bow. The best part about making custom arrows was being able to pick the color and style of fletching. It might not sound very exciting to you but I was out of her mind with joy. I haven't been able to draw a bow for a few years because of a shoulder injury but I was able to draw the bow I made

Day 37 of 365
Bowyer I know you're probably trying to figure out what the hell that is. Today I got a chance to sand and help build a 64" hickory longbow. My son is learning to be a bowyer and as much as we value people with four year degrees he is a tradesman and a very talented one. On day 37 he and the shop owner decided I should help build a bow. You already know I like creating things but this involved power tools that I wasn't prepared to use. I'm impressed by the creations hanging i

Day 36 of 365
Day 36 and the fruit of a Dragon. Okay, it's not the fruit of a dragon but it is the fruit that looks like something a dragon might cough up if it was choking. I decided I needed to eat this fruit at some point in the experience. If you go back over the last 36 days I've got quite the delicious fruit salad going. When I cut this fruit open I was surprised it was white on the inside. It's such a contrast to the fiery magenta on the outside. It looks like a kiwi but its firm an

Day 35 of 365
Day 35 was wild! My 35th day included Bison, alpaca, llamas and bucket loads of other wild beasts. Believe it or not there is a Safari almost in my own backyard. I got a ticket for a rainy day adventure and little did I know it was going to be more amazing than I ever expected. If you haven't heard of the Safari Lake Geneva, you have now. It's a very cool drive through safari. On a busy day you'd be in an open trailer having the most amazing time filling the bellies of very e

Day 34 of 365
Day 34 and Celtic knots I have always had a fascination with Celtic and Egyptian art. I've spent a ton of time playing with ancient egypt and making cartouche symbols with many many kids, but I've never tried to draw celtic knots and especially the triquetra. It's got all different names but I'm settling for this one. I'm not sure if you've ever tried to draw this symbol but it's not for the faint of heart. My first attempt was really a mess. It's important to start with a pe

Day 33 of 365
Today's experience was an interesting one. Aloe vera. Don't shake your head. It's not just for skin irritation. I've been reading quite a bit about the leaves of this plant. I've always had one in my house for burns but never thought to use it for anything else. The leaf that I bought weighed about a pound before peeling it. Taking the skin off is pretty cool unless slime triggers your gag reflex. It's the slimiest thing I've ever had in my kitchen. My intention is to eat thi
