Day 356 of 365

Today had an interesting flavor

I’ve been walking around the city of Edinburgh, Scotland for the last week and falling in love with the place my first born will live. This kid is being brave in ways that I envy.

I can’t even touch how much courage it takes to leave all of the safety of family to chase your dreams.

As part of my 365 days of adventure I enjoyed a few local treats. I’m using the word treat in a loose form because I ate something called black pudding and I really should have googled the ingredients before putting it in my mouth.

Ingredients

  1. 4 cups fresh pig's blood.

  2. 2 1/2 teaspoons salt.

  3. 1 1/2 cups steel-cut (pinhead) oatmeal.

  4. 2 cups finely diced pork fat (or beef suet), finely chopped.

  5. 1 large yellow onion, finely chopped.

  6. 1 cup milk.

  7. 1 1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper.

  8. 1 teaspoon ground allspice.

I think I'm a vegetarian again.

How did my black pudding taste?

Like the blood of a pig mixed with seven other ingredients.

Not so good.

My blood sausage was served as part of an Official Scottish breakfast. I couldn't eat all of it and shared the plate of food with the rest of my family.

Next delicious treat?

Ginger spiced Pepsi!

This is a real thing. If you like ginger beer the taste is so similar but I couldn't drink it every day. It was a treat.

I ended the day with what I'd hoped to have on my Scottish adventure.

Thistle Tea

Why?

The national animal is the Unicorn. I'm not kidding and it is magical for me to be in the land of mystical creature appreciation. In a country that honors a Unicorn it only makes sense that the thistle would be the national plant.

There are historical reasons for both and google searches will help answer all your questions. I'm focusing on forcing down this tea.

IT IS BITTER!

This is not a sipping tea and most definitely something to keep on the shelf of medicinal drinks. Maybe I can add my tincture from day 311.
