Day 82 of 365

Beveling an edge

Today's adventure was one of the best moments I've had working with metal. This experience wasn't about being a blacksmith, it was about taking a bunch of new skills and using them to make a tool.

On day 82 I built a beveling jig. It's a tool for grinding the edge of a knife blank into a blade. I cut all of the pieces for this project using the angle grinder and welded the entire thing together.

The purpose of the jig is to stabilize the knife blank so that both sides of the knife are even and balanced. I've never built a tool before. I've never welded a tool together and used it like I did today and it was pretty amazing.

Day 82 opens the door to so many possibilities.
